Don’t Delete Art (DDA) is a project drawing attention to the damage done when art is censored in online environments.

We are a collaboration of artist-activists and human rights organizations advocating for greater protection of artistic expression across platforms.

Report art censorship online here

If art that you have posted online has been removed, downranked, or resulted in restrictions to your online activities, we invite you to submit* a CENSORSHIP REPORT.

*submissions are also considered for inclusion in DDA’s Gallery for Art Censored Online, a rotating curated feature that illustrates what kinds of art is being suppressed online.

DDA: 2025 Roundup

This year began with a gold-chain-clad Mark Zuckerberg promising Meta would “reduce mistakes” and “get back to our roots of freedom of expression.” For many artists who faced restrictions, visibility loss, or even account deletion, those words likely feel ironic at best.

ways to get involved

  • A graphic with a pink background and a large black circle in the center. Inside the circle, white bold text reads: "Artist Instagram Account Status Survey & Report Form." Four smaller black circles with white X's are positioned at each corner of the graphic. At the bottom of the circle, a smaller white circle contains black text: "DON'T DELAY ART" with a small trash can icon integrated in the text.

Now more than ever, Instagram's content moderation remains a critical issue.
We want to know what is happening, how it's happening, and how it is affecting you as an artist -- only YOU know what is happening in your account, and that information could be key.

  • A large group of nude men and women standing outdoors in rows with arms extended forward, participating in a protest or demonstration during dusk, with mountain scenery in the background. The image has bold red and white text overlay reading 'SIGN THE DON'T DELETE ART MANIFESTO' and 'DON'T DELETE ART' in the bottom right corner.

    DDA MANIFESTO

Social media corporations have become cultural gatekeepers with unprecedented power to determine which art works can freely circulate and which ones are banned or pushed into the digital margins.

JOIN US and THOUSANDS of artists, curators, critics, galleries, historians, students, and cultural institutions in telling social media companies that there must be greater support of artistic expression on social media.

  • Screenshot of a social media app showing a notification that the Instagram account has been disabled, with instructions to wait 30 days or request a review.

    Censorship Art Spots: Open Call!

Inspired by MTV’s 1985 “Art Breaks” series, we are calling for videos from the DDA community artistically responding to the problem of online art censorship and drawing attention to the obstacles and frustrations that come with it.
